These were the words that echoed in the heart of Pastor Bruce Matthews. "There's a difference between having the heart of a pastor and being an evangelist" the Lord told him. "I will give you a pastor's heart for the people and I will give them a heart for you."
Pastor Bruce and First Lady Laurene Matthews' burden from the Lord for ministry and the feeding of hungry souls began with a bible study in Green Cove, FL. A prophecy confirming the word of the Lord in their hearts said that they would be sent out from their long-time ministry duties at Philippian Community Church in Jacksonville, FL. That prophecy came to pass just 5 short years later when Philippian Community Church of Clay County was born in April 2009.

Hedges and Highways Ministries was founded by Pastor Bruce Matthews, Sr. in 2002. Our sole purpose is to provide a platform for strong youths that can inspire and help build hurting youths in diverse economical backgrounds. With the support and unified efforts of our community, pastors and leaders, Hedges and Highways Ministries offers a life-changing message of hope and positive direction. Our annual events help to promote safe streets by decreasing violence, drugs and alcohol activities.
